AWARE2.0

The AWARE2.0 characterization factors (CFs) are available at https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.15133241. This repository provides characterization factors in varying spatiotemporal resolutions and file types:

MS Excel files:
- Basin level CFs (the native resolution of AWARE2.0)
- Country and region level CFs
- Subnational CFs
GIS files for the identification of basins on a map

IMPACT World+ version 2.2.1 includes AWARE2.0 and offers files for direct import into OpenLCA and SimaPro (https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18892673). Standalone AWARE2.0 files are currently being developed and will be provided on Zenodo when available. We provide links to the IMPACT World+ files here: SimaPro, OpenLCA

To view the AWARE2.0 CFs right away in your internet browser, click here (opens view in Google Earth web).

Please note that the extent and implementation of LCIA regionalization can differ between software products. In brightway, the technosphere database has to be augmented with regionalized inventory flows to be able to implement regionalized AWARE, e.g. using regioinvent.

AWARE Version tracking table

1.2c	Feb, 2019	Country and region aggregation has been refined, no changes to watershed values.
1.2	January, 2023	Added a worksheet for documentation purposes to the Excel documents. No change to AWARE values.
1.2	June 3rd, 2024	Bug fixed for CFs of zero in the watershed level Excel file. Caspian Sea basin set to “no data”. While the bug persists in the Google Earth file, it can still be used to identify watersheds.
